Cane train! Queensland sugar mills privately own and maintain over 4000km of mostly 2 foot gauge networks and during cane crushing season transport over 36 Million tonnes of cane to the mills. The video shows freshly cut cane in their bins on their way to the mill and the moving train is carrying the finished product to Lucinda to be shipped overseas, mostly to Canada and Malaysia. The Lucinda Bulk Sugar Terminal boasts the longest service jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s nearly 6km long and actually follows the curvature of the earth. The networks have around 250 diesel- hydraulic locos and 52000 cane bins.
