It was a sad day yesterday as sole working A4 'Union of South Africa' was prematurely pulled from service following a failed boiler examination. 60009 holds a special place in my heart, as she's to blame for my love of railways after my Grandparents took me on the Scarborough Spa Express about 12 years ago. This is the first time since the 70s that there hasn't been an operational A4, but hopefully, Sir Nigel Gresley will be back with us next year! Hopefully, 60009 will steam again, from my understanding she is fixable, just requires a lot of cash! Enjoy your very well earned retirement old girl.
