#postit #southern Yes, I really have found a way to please my Eastern self in today's post it theme! In 1957, All of Bulleid's West Country and Merchant Navy's were temporarily pulled for service after a cracked axle was discovered on one of the class members. To cover for the shortfall in traction, Thompson Bongo's and Gresley V2s were reallocated to the southern region! Here we see Gresley V2 60893 working the Bournemouth Belle! I have a soft spot for Bulleid. He was legally related to Gresley and worked with him on the GNR and LNER, and he was partly responsible for the Gresley P2 as well as other famous designs. It's too much of a stretch that Bulleid would have succeeded Gresley after his death rather than Thompson, which would be an interesting alternate reality!
