Knew I kept that old phone for something! After continued connection issues between throttle app and Raspberry Pi, I've resorted to sticking with the original setup with the Raspberry Pi creating its own network. The old phone will now be a dedicated 'throttle' so I don't need to faff about switching WiFi networks on my phone every time I want to check my emails while playing trains
