This may sound very obvious to the experienced scratch builders but I realised this weekend something that could have saved me a lot of work. One of the old brewery buildings in my home town, Plough Maltings, which was left empty for years, is being renovated and turned into apartments, I decided to do a scratch build of it based on some architects images published in the local news website, and various old photos. I used donor windows and doors from an old Metcalfe’s warehouse to get me going, I posted some photos a few months back. But…..I was looking on the local council planning applications site and saw the detailed elevations of the buildings, if I’d found these earlier it would have saved me alot of guesswork for sizing etc. First illustration is the architectural impressions (which got me started) and the second and third are the actual architects scale elevations from the council planning website. The building is currently covered in scaffolding as the work is underway.
