BTW, all the EWS signs had been removed from around Knutsford by the late 50’s, but in about 1967/8 a film crew came to town to film Payton; Lust for Glory. Masking tape appeared on windows, sandbags fortified building frontages, bunting went up and EWS stations appeared in various locations within my layout! So, yes they are an anachronism, but are not out of place! (PS, yours truly was amongst several like minded youths who absented themselves from school to appear as extras! I got a fair isle tank top and a pair of wooden shorts to wear a flag to wave and £5! You can look for me in the scenes of Patton’s parade outside the old town hall, but I’ve never found me! 🙄🤣
