Herewith an update on my turntable trials! Here's the deal: it's an SE Finecast kit - nothing wrong with that! To get power to the deck I made two rings of copper wire & there are two wipers under the deck attached to the tracks - powered from a Block Signalling Rev 1 autoreverser. As built, it all worked fine except that the deck was about half a mil too high - locos lurched up onto it (not good!). To lower it, I installed a new track ring in the well using code 75 bullhead rail. All well & good - except for the law of unintended consequences! 1: The track ring is narrower & slightly larger than the original ring. To counter this I had to take the white metal brackets off the bridge & file the holes so I could slide them out by 1mm or so. 2: This action caused the wood tongue (in which the referencing magnet is mounted) to bind on the edges of the well! Doh! Easy enough to fix - shorten the tongue! Sorted.... But! 3: The whole deck now sits lower in the well as intended. But... There's so little room underneath now that the wipers bind on the copper rings resulting in very jerky running. I've tried filling down the rings to no avail. So I've ordered some thin copper sheet from which to make two rings (bit like washers really!) - & some much thinner styrene on which to mount them. This should give me another couple of mil too play with in the bottom of the well (fingers crossed!!). Further update when the stuff arrives!!
