This is true in the perspective that you only need a piece of (typically) 40x90cm to start and only one module to join in. Additionally you may work at the kitchen table and quickly put you small world away (in theory). And you could make use of only short snippets of spare time. Many of these pros are also true for "regular" layouts but their value lies in keeping the entry level low and rewarding results at closer reach. Here are some of my modules. They might be as small as the first one; most of them are medium sized like the second and there are some like the third that are honestly (inherited though) already oversized for above approach.
