I had a couple of requests as to how I did the ferns; (1) I painted them first using a gentle stippling technique (you have to be really careful not to break the fronds or to make them too wet) I used a Vallejo dark green. (2) Once dried I cut the nodes holding them on the sheet, then glued (pva or similar) 2 together so the fronds don't overlap. (3) once dry I used some tweezers to pull the fronds up slightly, then glued in it in place. (4) For a thicker fern I then folded another pair up fairly tight so that the fronds don't catch and glued it in the centre of the ones already in place. (5) once dry you can shape with tweezers. Hope this helps those that asked.👍 Use a rust weathering pencil wet if you want an autumn look.
