#weekendmodelling #postit After a successful weekend's modelling (and watching the rugby - disappointing!), here's the final instalment of my engine shed build. The first thing to do was finish the roof so picture 1 shows it complete except for the area where the roof vent will go. Now on to the roof vent, I had purchased pack LX449-OO Engine Shed Roof Vents hoping it would save me time trying to fashion my own - how wrong could I be! I realised that one of the vents 'out of the packet' would be too long for what I needed so made one up 2/3 the length and plonked it on top of the building (see picture 2) - it was huge and looks quite out of place. What to do, maybe Justin could produce one in #Ngauge that would be more like the size I wanted! 🤣🤣 No, I want to get this finished and if you believe what he says about the amount of stuff he's got in the pending tray then I won't see it this side of Christmas, sorry Justin only joking. 🤣🤣 No, we're modellers I thought, kit bashing and scratch building is what we do, so I set about hacking the second vent in the kit to suit my needs. I kept it at 2/3 the original length, took a 10mm vertical slice out of the middle of the end pieces and reduced the height by 1 slat (adjusting the angle at the bottom of the ends at the same time as the pitch of the two roofs is different). I had some V-Groove plastic sheet so covered the ends in this to tidy it up, a quick lick of paint and some SMS Weathered Slates and you have picture 3, much better, I'm happy with that. Pictures 4 & 5 show the completed building back on the layout, first on its own - I've still got to extend the base it sits on as it's quite a bit bigger that its predecessor, and then with the adjoining carriage shed. I've still got to fit the end doors on both buildings but will leave that until the ground works are done.
