After my success on Saturday installing a DCC decoder in my Hornby class 91, I decided to have a go with my 30 year old Lima class 59. I stripped it and cleaned it, made sure all the pick ups were clean and making contact with the wheels and axles. Then I checked on line for any instructions and found an article and a video. I carefully followed the instructions, taking note that I knew what wire was what and where it went and why, then started, with my heart in my mouth most of the time, especially as I decided to use a Zimo MC600R decoder. I didn’t want to lose £20! I had a few issues, but got it in and tested it first on address 3. It worked! So I reprogrammed it to 59, of course and checked it again. It still worked. When I put the body back on it kept derailing, but without the body on it was fine! More time finding out why, a few modifications to the body and finally sorted. I took the opportunity to modify one of the bogies by fitting an NEM pocket to it. I couldn’t get the height lined up as per the spec, but it works with the small tension locks, even though this is not my first choice. Here are a few photos of what I have done. I’ve had it running round in both directions tonight and my next post is a video of my Yeoman train going round my layout, but not using tension locks!
