The saga of a Hornby class 87, part 2! Taking the body off was fairly easy. It’s held on by clips in 6 places. I wasn’t happy with what I found. Photos 1, 2 & 3 show the wires haphazardly positioned and if you look closely you can see where some of them have obviously been trapped! I tidied them up and put them where I thought they should be and fitted a Zimo MX600R decoder. I put the body back on and it wouldn’t clip into place! There is very little space for the decoder between the circuit board and the roof, which is flat! I had to find a way of getting all the wires and decoder in as close as possible so I could get the body on. Photo 4 shows the result. You can also see the pantograph on the body in the background, which I have superglued into the position I require, as shown on photo 5. The body only partially clips down and still traps the wires at each end at the bottom! It runs very well, no problems on that count! Next post is about fitting the detailing parts.
