The saga of a Hornby class 87, part 3! I decided to fit all the detailing parts from the pack. Well! More drama! I’m normally good at this, but it took me ages to sort these out. Goodness knows how someone without the knowledge or experience, or even a steady hand and lots of patience, is going to do this I just don’t know! There is so much paint on the lugs of the brake pipes that they just wouldn’t go in! While trying to get one of them in, I knocked the small plastic coupling hook out! I thought it was me, but when I looked closely, I could see it hadn’t been glued in correctly. There was a massive blob of superglue (I assume) in the space where the hook goes. I dug it out with a scalpel knife. Then I had to file the lug of the plastic hook to get it to fit in the hole, where I glued it back in with superglue (plastic to metal). Eventually they all went in with superglue, but what a job! I have to say the ETH connections went in easily. So, body back on, Hunt coupling in one end only and give it a run. Phew, no problems! Put it on the train. No problems pulling. Derailing of first coach bogie when pushing! Traced to misalignment of one of the Hint couplings, which was changed. Problem solved. Photo shows the details at the problem end. You can probably see where I’ve dug out all the superglue from around the hook! Next post is a video of the train finally running this afternoon!
