Ended up at Locomotion in Shildon today. Grandson Louis loves Thomas the Tank Engine already and he isn’t quite 2. Grandpa decided it was time to meet some real trains. Also in the museum is an engine that used to run past the bottom of my own Grandpa’s street when he was a little boy. North Eastern electric No1 ran on the Quayside branch in Newcastle and I remember stories from him about how he and his mates used to try throwing things on the electrified 3rd rail in the cutting between the tunnels!
