#disusedrailways #postittheme A bit of post about my home islands own little railway. The Malta Railway opened in 1883 and was officially shut down in 1931. Officially known as ‘il-Vapur tal-Art’ (The landship), the railway was roughly 7 miles long and went from Valletta (il-belt) to Mdina, an extension was eventually built to the army hospital in Mtarfa around 1900. Over its life time it had 10 steam engines, they were built in the UK to meter gauge and shipped to Malta. Considering Malta is know for it heritage preservation, the Railway kinda skipped the call and what is left of it is in a sorry state.
