#howto #howtoguide Thought I'd share this 'How To' for a project I did a couple of years ago of repainting the Railroad Hornby LNER teak coaches to give them a better teak look. This is NOT my idea, I've taken this from the original guide I found on RMWeb. 1) separate the main coach body from the chassis and interior. Some of the ends may come loose, but keep these attached to the main body. 2) give a good coating of white primer. I used this as an excuse to paint the roof too. 3) add orange basecoat. I used a shade called 'Pumpkin' which I got from The Range. This was applied with a flat brush following the grain direction on the body panels. The grain goes horizontally on the bottom panels, and vertically on doors, adjacent panels and the coach ends. 4) once this has dried you can add the 'teak'. For this I use Windsor and Newton Burnt Umber oil paints, thinned with the makers Liquin. However much you thin the paint affects the final colour- thinner the Paint, the more the orange shows through and the newer the teak finish appears. Again make sure you follow the grain direction properly. 5) Once everything has dried you can reassemble the coach. You can of course paint the interiors if you wish but I chose not to on this project. 6) Lastly is the numbering. HMRS do both Presfix and Methfix transfers in the LNER style and I added suitable letting and numbering to the coaches using prototype pictures as a guide. Hope someone finds this guide useful, it's a really easy and quick way to make the basic coaches look more like the prototype without paying the prices for the premium models.
