Canal Boat Kits (OO scale) - I have noticed that quite a number of the layouts on "Railway Modellers" club have water features and I was wondering how many folk have come across these relatively cheap but very attractive little kits. Manufactured by Craftline Models, they retail at around £6.00 each. They are of Balsa construction (kits contain two main pieces ie cabin and hull) and several pre-formed pieces for the bow and stern. The hull has to be shaped (front and back) which is quite simple as Balsa is really soft. I prepared the Balsa with a product called "Sand and Seal" prior to painting with tester pot matt emulsions. The models were then sprayed with a gloss lacquer to give a smooth gloss finish. The wraps were then fitted to front, back and sides. I also fitted funnels to all three models and I also fitted roof rails to the model in the centre of the photograph. I should have fitted roof rails to all three at the time of construction. These little kits would make a nice addition to a canal scene or other water feature on a model railway layout.
