Staying with the Garage theme, this weeks "How To" will make a fine addition to any garage scene. Based loosely on a 1970's style car wash, I have tried to create a model of one of this type of car wash that was very common in my area. This type of car wash was the forerunner to the automatic car washes of today. Rather than the car staying static in the wash whilst the brushes automatically moved along and over the car, the "drive through" was the opposite in that the car drove through the wash as the 5 brushes (2either side) and one above, moved in from the side and the top one moved down from the front. As the car passed through the upper brush washed the front, bonnet, roof and back. The two brushes either side washed the sides of the car. An electronic eye system activated the brushes according to the size of the car. A hose, bucket and sponge was provided to wash the wheels. A big thank-you to those that had a go at guessing what I had constructed. The 15mm pipe cleaners could indeed be used to create a loco or coach wash.
