A couple of East Coast Main Line photos for Dylan, taken by myself at Newcastle, when I was trainspotting as a teenager! The first photo is of 60028 Walter K Wigham, on a southbound express on 23rd August 1960. The second photo shows an almost brand new D9012 Crepello at the same platform in Newcastle, but on the 6th July 1962, with the southbound The Flying Scotsman. The third photo shows one of my favourite steam locos, the Princess Royal class, or Duchess class, in the form of 46221 Queen Elisabeth at Carlisle on the southbound The Caledonian on 1st September 1960. I used to travel around different areas on 7 day Rover tickets, which were excellent value and travel behind as many locos as possible, while sometimes recording their timings. The Deltics frequently reached 103mph on the run from Newcastle to Berwick on Tweed, which was quite amazing on the track at the time.
