So here’s the concept for the new shunting dockside, based loosely around Newcastle #Quayside, phase 1 on a 4x1 board. The inglenook puzzle at the back, representing Quayside yard, the straight track at the front running along the edge of the river. The yard will have overhead catenary, and will be walled off from the road that will run the length of the board ES 1 is positioned at the exit from the quay, at the tunnel mouth. On the real railway this is where overhead electric swapped to third rail. J72 is at the gate out of the yard to move wagons to warehouses and ships. The position of this gate when shut will give just the right length headhunt for a 5-3-3 inglenook puzzle. A second 4x1 board will follow, initially as a fiddle yard, but perhaps eventually a scenic section that connects the inglenook to the lines on the river front. Maybe board 2 is a separate shunting puzzle based on the timesaver concept?
