This engineering train in Leeds has a variety of wagons in it’s consist, despite them all looking very similar. The oldest ones are the JNA’s (photo 3)), one of which strangely has a panel saying ‘scrap metal only’! That’s a new one on me. The bogies are the Naco Axle motion 3 type. These wagons are modelled by Dapol in 4mm scale, 00 gauge. Then there are the IEA wagons (photos 2 & 4), also with the Axle motion 3 bogies. The newest type (photos 1 & 5) are the MLA type, part of a large contract with WASCOSA and with fabricated Y25 bogies. The wagons are used for all kinds of engineering loads, including ballast, sleepers, structures etc. Old and new. The GLW (Gross Laden Weight, or fully loaded) of each wagon is 90tonnes, giving an axle load of 22.5t There are currently no models of the latter two types, the IEA or MLA. They often run with the earlier MOA, MCA and MDA low height box wagons, which are DB owned and painted in the old EWS maroon livery.
