Ok, bear with me whilst I demonstrate the abyssal depths of my knowledge of steam locos. I know the basics; you light a fire, you boil the water and the steam that comes off drives the wheels around. As that annoying meerkat would say, “Simples!” But whilst I know it’s actually much more complicated than that, I don’t have a nice readable and reasonably technical book that describes all the detail. For instance, what’s under that bell shaped hump on top? What are firebox washout plugs? How did steam technology develop. Now I bet you’re all sniggering up your sleeves by now, but I just don’t care! 😆 Can anyone (everyone!) recommend a suitable book for me me? Pretty please? Asking for a friend! 😎
