I came across this poster recently. It's a reminder of the days when 'Footex' trains were common. This one running from Elgin to Glasgow Central for a Scottish Cup tie in 1967. Note the prices - £1 for an adult return, which is about £15 today. An anytime return between Elgin and Glasgow now is £90. The other thing to note is that the train went to Central and not Queen Street. It would also likely have been routed via Aberdeen as that would have not required any reversals; the other southbound direct route via Forres to Aviemore had closed in October 1965. Apparently, the train was not confined to supporters as a large number of women took the opportunity for a shopping expedition to Glasgow. (Celtic won 5-0 by the way.)
