Been for a walk this morning on the old track bed that formed the route from Portland Station to Easton (Tophill). If only this line could have been kept in preservation. Unfortunately, undermining of the track and cliff falls led to its closure but the scenery is to die for. 1 Track bed on up incline showing cutting through the rock. 2 Track with coastal scenery. 3 modelling inspiration for cliff/ rock face. 4 Ancient spoil from long past quarrying. In the foreground are slabbed out Portland stone that were surplus to requirements for Sir Christopher Wren as he built his London architectural masterpieces, including St Paul’s. 5 views from the track as would have been seen from the train, Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove across Weymouth Bay.
