#groundsignals I’m planning a new project to scratch build my own ground signals for the goods and parcels yards at Baza Station. I’ve received an order of micro SMDs and have been testing my soldering skills and, checking out the correct polarity, before assembly. I will also be designing an application with one or more Arduino micro processors to control any signalling used. At Baza, the points controlling access in and out of the goods/carriage sidings and the respective receiving/departing roads, to and from the main lines, are operated via my Z21 dcc controller. Once in the respective yards, the points to the four carriage sidings and those to the main goods shed and receiving/departing roads, are controlled manually via analogue lever frames (all other points are operated via ‘THOG’) This was planned to allow a more hands-on approach when playing trains. The use of points and signals around the yard is intended to add more interest and, is no way intended to conform with strict railway procedures (Rule #1 in place) I hope to post the relevant build updates as I continue with the project. For now, here are a few pics of the SMD preparation and, intended design of the ground signal units. (In case anyone is interested, the units will be based on pre-1996 colour light operating format) Pic 1: Checking dimensions Pic 2: Attaching power leads Pic 3: Confirming anode/cathode Pics 4 & 5: Intended signal design
