I am learning so much in my attempt to build Bradford Cathedral in N Scale, and not all of it about modelling. When I was filming inside the building, I noticed that the rear part, the chancel, was out of alignment with the nave. "Sloppy 1950's building" was my initial thought. But this was done deliberately when the 1950s extension was added. By orienting the extension 1.6 degrees to the left (north), the architect Sir Edward Mauf, was respecting a tradition as ancient as churches themselves. It's known as a "weeping chancel" and is thought to represent the tilt of Christ's head at the crucifixion. A 2022 survey of 2100 churches in England suggest that this, to a greater or lesser degree, one side or the other, is a feature present in about half of those surveyed. So... I've decided to include this in my model. I wonder if it will be visible.
