With the naff weather here in Scotland I’ve been busy detailing my steam era MPD. It’s called Scarsdale shed and lies alongside Denley Moor (Midland) station in the Yorkshire coalfield. Date is 1958 which allows both early and late emblems and the emphasis is on trying to achieve realistic installations and authentic grime! By this time most major sheds would have a coaling tower and an ash disposal tower complete with pits and tub tracks and probably an abandoned “ramp and barrows” coaling stage. Over the last few years I located various second hand Hornby and Bachmann buildings and they have finally been put to use (with a bit of bashing.) The tubs are Minitrains tippers in 009 and run on desleepered N gauge rail glued down. They tip down gratings which are actually SMS gratings in O gauge to give the right size. The tub tracks also run in the pits where the tubs would be bottom opening type not tippers but they’re rather hidden away so no-one can tell - I hope. The tippers had wire couplings (removed) and big side flanges which were cut down. A light spray with matt black then rust effect and a bit of ash from the barby. Quite pleased with the result.
