My local Club received a kind donation from a deceased estate. As the self appointed "younger" ferrets went diving through the material deciding what the Club could use/renovate/sell/give away or trash; I noticed several unopened Superquick card kits being tossed in the rubbish bin. I stepped in retrieved the kits and asked what the go was. The response being "they're ancient and pretty cheap and nasty looking". So obviously I'm no longer young enough to know everything! Bottom line from me was "bu**ar that", with some "real" modelling these kits do have potential. So here are some in progress results on one of the buildings. The photos show that the brick background was cut away and a plain piece of card [slightly smaller to allow the corners to still be bent] covered in a brick paper and glued behind. The original elements were separated out from the brick wall and applied to the new brickwork to create a 3D effect. The edges of the raw card was colour matched with acrylic paint. So the 5 photos show [in no particular order] what the end result appears like; what the difference between the original brick and replacement brick element appears like; close up of the 3D effect achieved and the back showing the support card/brick replacement. Hopefully I've shown that there is still life in these "old" [around 70 yrs] kits. Toying with the idea of applying acrylic gloss medium/varnish to the window areas [avoiding the frames and mullions] to replicate a glass appearance. OK these may not pass super close examination; however a couple of feet away or at the rear of a layout scene, they should do the intended job.
