Well it was all going so well! It's important to share the cock-ups as well as the successes. I started work on modifying my Hawthorn Leslie to add some head lamps. This required adding in a new Next18 socket to allow more functions to be wired in. Annoyingly, the models firebox LEDs are wired in a strange way that I can't figure out, so they had to be left out for the time being. No biggy. Anyhow, after a bit of pressing buttons, I found the headlight function and put everything back together. Then pop! The sound of a decoder frying itself! I clearly had missed a short somewhere, and the familiar smell of fried silicon appeared. So the plan is, come payday, get a new decoder and a new breakout board with all the function outputs to allow the decoder to be used to the full. I'll also make a new board for the firebox flicker and the pickups Still, its a fun little project getting it all working. #dcc #dcc_conversion
