SCRATCH-BUILD A BRIDGE - Part Two. - Having drawn and cut the four pieces necessary for the sides of the bridge, it was time to apply the pine strip (3mm x 3mm) to the front side of all four of the templates. The back of the templates will also be constructed the same way but with a slightly wider pine strip. As the bridge was to have "fronts” fitted, both these were cut from 1.5mm card - the complete model requiring approximately three sheets of 1.5mm card. The pillars for the bridge were made from card tubing found in the wrap for cooking foil - it is ideal for modelling as it is 24mm diameter approx. and slightly over 450mm long - you will get three lengths (x150mm) if using a very fine bladed saw. A second "tube" will also be required to cut the fourth pillar. The four pillars and fronts were then "wrapped”. The next stage will be to construct two bases and join the sides together and paint both sides.
