And now I am caught up. Thank you for your patience! For Chandwell #postit #b, B is for Bridge. There are two in this shot. In the foreground is Chandwell’s Old Bridge. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and part of it dates back to 1228 when the Archbishop of York had it built to provide a more direct route to York. Behind it in the distance are the 9 iron arches of Rose Beck Bridge which was the last part of the viaduct to be completed when it replaced a temporary two-track structure in 1877. Built by local Chandwell engineer, Benjamin Knight, the stepped skew bridge crosses the Chander and the Five Mills Path and is a favourite graffiti spot in the town. It currently sports a unique piece of work by local and mysterious artist, “Stanley”.
