The more I look at this each morning, the less I have to go towards the hobbies I have. This Air Source Heat Pump system is supposed to be economical. Well right now it’s far from being that… The house is pure electric and I normally have a monthly charge of around £79.00 until the winter months when it rises to around £140, so just about double. Going by the meter reading this morning, I wonder if having this Air source heating was the best option for me. It didn’t cost me anything has it’s grant funded. But I really wasn’t told how an Air Source system work. Like it has to be on all the time 24/7. During the day, the Solar panels (Which are on the wrong side of the roof) collect what energy they can to help with the running. However without the secondary battery source, the running cost goes up when the solar power is gone and the energy comes from the grid. The grant didn’t include this important part, why, I don’t know, maybe because they have a short lifespan for charge cycles. Anyway, for those that are thinking about going into this type of heating system, think hard and do a ton of homework, I didn’t until it was too late. Yes it’s very efficient, and goes well linked with solar PV, however check with your electricity supplier beforehand has EON doesn’t provide an Solar SEG and heat pump tariff if they didn’t install the system. I’m currently in credit with EON has I paid a big chunk last year to cover 12 months at the previous monthly estimate. But I can see by my smart meter that credit will be gone in a month or two months time instead of lasting till November….. Guess I need to switch to Octopus, but will need help doing that. A trip to citizens advice or AgeUK me thinks.
