Latest experiment. Firstly a 1:76 wall was constructed to simulate ship-lap boarding using stripped Twinings 100 Tea Bag box teabag separator card [method suitable for numerous gauges]. The experiment relates to the painting to achieve a very aged/weathered look. The white card was first painted a light grey and allowed to fully dry. then a coat of tan and allowed to fully dry. Next the surface of the paint is scrubbed [not excessively] with a fiberglass eraser in a sporadic fashion across the wall surface to expose the grey underneath [no white card]. Next comes a third colour an earth/rusty brown and when dry the same brush technique [not always in the same place as on the previous coat. Lastly comes the top coat [in this case green] treated the same way. The end result is what you see; a very random effect which because of the various layers showing differently in different areas; can tend to indicate previous top coat colours. The photo [mobile macro] really doesn't do the finished effect true justice - but you get the idea. I used lacquer based paint purely for the quick drying time - somewhat impatient at times; however any paint will work be it lacquer, enamel or acrylic.
