I have taken my four year old son on the train a number of times now, which he really enjoys (today we went to Ashford from Thanet Parkway via Dover). What has been really nice, and it's such a small thing, is that when he waves to the driver when the train is arriving, they always wave back and give the train a little toot. It makes his day.
