#raillive (18/06/2025) The latest Hydroflex unit, numbered 799201, was there and I was given a tour of that too. One coach has been converted into a sort of power car, housing all the high pressure hydrogen tanks, low pressure drives, batteries, converters and most importantly, the coolers. It looks very complicated and required strengthening of the floor. This new technology is evolving all the time apparently and is being over designed for safety, just to be sure. New standards are being written specifically for rail operations and I was told that it will be developed further. This train should be able to go about 350 miles before refuelling, which is just about one day of working local trains. This post shows the outside of the train. My next post will show inside the ‘power car’.
