A good friend of mine recently passed away and I have been asked what is the best way to dispose of his model railway models etc. I’m not sure at this stage what he has got but know that he had a number of O gauge models that he had built from scratch or kits plus various bits and pieces. His wife is from Thailand and doesn’t share his interests nor does she understand the legal formalities of dealing with the estate. I have suggested that the will is reviewed in the first place to see if any specific legacies have been made, before any disposals are made. As I see it the executors will also need to be consulted. My dilemma is that I have been asked what would be the best way of disposing of his railway items. I think that there are three options: Sell on e-bay Sell to one of the major retailers Sell the items via a specialist auction company. There are clearly pros and cons to each option but I would like to think that his widow could be ripped off. The other thought was to leave it all to the executors to sort out but don’t know if they would get best value which clearly is important. Any thoughts to help me with is conundrum would be appreciated. Many thanks
