09/04/2026 With reference to the post by @Rob York a couple of days ago, regarding the replacing of tension lock couplings on Lima class 59’s and fitting an NEM pocket. I thought I should show you what I told Rob. When Hornby took over all the tooling from Lima, they kept the coupling design of the time. Instead of the large moulded tension lock coupling on older models, the later design was a clip on type. They appeared on most locos. See photo1, which shows this on a class 59. Lima designed a clip on NEM pocket for the class 156, which luckily Hornby continued to produce and still do to this day. The reference is X9694 and there are 10 pockets and couplings in each pack, available from Peters spares. See photo 2, in which you can see one fitted to a class 59. Photo 3 shows a Kadee number 17 fitted into the NEM pocket. They can also be used on the class 92, as shown in photos 4 and 5. For me, they protrude too far and create a very large gap. I have been experimenting and found a way round it, but that is in my next post. They are a cheaper alternative to using the Kadee NEM363 adapters that I posted about earlier.
