Last weekend I was developing the prototype for my London Undergroud 2.0 model. Building the track bed and platform level using strips of black foam board. The station tilework is laser printed onto photographic paper. Everything just placed inside the tunnel to determine fit and sizing - train placed for photographic effect only! The track pit will be tricky: I need to remove the middle part of the sleepers between the rails but without affecting the integrity of the track itself. It’s proving to be … challenging! I tried applying masking tape on the underside of the track on both sides to hold everything in place while I cut out the.middle - but then I had trouble removing the masking tape without it all falling apart. Ideas on a postcard please! I could just fix the bare rails onto the foam board but then I think it will be tricky to keep them straight and parallel - although I have been using a 3D printed track gauge tool. Hoping to get this station tunnel section completed this weekend and then to build the opposite direction deep level Platform. . I need to build out the subsurface platforms - effectively it’s a rectangular box with the track and platforms so a bit easier to do and like a layout within a layout! I’ve 3D printed some sewage / water pipes that will probably run alongside. And I found a 3D printable model for a set of long escalators. The size and fit of that will determine where the passageways are positioned to link the different levels. But I’m getting ahead of myself again!!
