Ive always been curious about steam engines pushing freight or coaches but ive only really seen that in european or brittish settings. Was that also done on mainlines or was it a branchline thing? Ive seen some of it over on this side of the pond but its usually only on switchbacks or an engine pushing a simgle car or 2 into an industry siding. Was it done due to less space over there that they couldnt run around the trains or was it just something to save time?
