Ref Josh Swales Cask Wagon. If I recall correctly built from a Ratio kit. Empty cask wagon to NBR diag 187W load 8 tons. A standard 36 gallon barrel weighed around 4cwt when full - difficult to handle. Empty casks comparatively light but bulky so special wagons were built to convey empty casks. It is possible that the bottom layer may well have been full casks with empties on top on some journeys as 8ton capacity is considerably more than a full load of empty casks.
