I decided to go for the "hand of god (magnet actually) and patiently fitted my couplings with small pieces of staple glued on. This worked well (for me??) and means I can uncouple wherever I want. To my surprise the Oxford coupling is metal that a magnet works with 😉 Would be good to obtain some more of them, would save messing about with glue and staples. Wonder if other couplings will do the same. Bachmann don't hence the staple. Will have to slowly sort through and see if I can find some more.
